SHNH Virtual AGM 2021, Tuesday 29 June 2021, 3pm: Message from the President
Message from SHNH President Professor Peter Davis
Annual General Meeting 2021, Tuesday 26 June 2021, 3.00pm
Dear Member,
This year the Society celebrates its 85th birthday, a wonderful achievement for a voluntary society. We will be holding a virtual Annual General Meeting on 29 June (3pm London time) when we will be extending a special welcome to our new members and to our international members. Unfortunately Covid restrictions and concerns prevent us from meeting in person and having a ‘real’ celebration this year. Meeting virtually does enable us to welcome members who would find travel and its associated costs prohibitive. However, we do hope to meet in person in 2022 to hold our delayed conference on the theme “Pioneering Naturalists: Champions of Conservation and Environmental Engagement” and I hope that you will be able to participate then.
We have much to celebrate in 2021 as we finalise the discussions about the Society’s strategies for the future. This AGM will also be an opportunity to commend the individuals receiving the Society’s Founders’ Medal and the first occasion when we present our new award – the President’s Award – a suitable way to mark 85 years of commitment to the history of natural history.
The official business of the AGM will be preceded by a short SGM when we will consider the adoption of the Byelaws (discussed at our March SGM) following their approval by the Charity Commission. Following the AGM there will be a short break, followed by presentation of the Society’s Awards and short talks by our Award winners. The Agenda for the AGM, and all the supporting documents including the list of nominees to Council portfolios, are available on the Society’s website.
With best wishes
Peter Davis
