Read moreThis one day meeting is in celebration of 350 years since the death of John Goodyer (1592–1664), the 17th-century botanist who added many plants to the British flora. He clarified the four principal types of British elm tree and introduced the Jerusalem Artichoke to English gardens and cookery. He produced translations of Theophrastus and Dioscorides and, together with Thomas Johnson (d.1644), revised ‘Gerard’s Herbal’ (1633). He left his extensive collection of books, manuscripts and notes to Magdalen College, Oxford.
