Society for the History of Natural History SGM & AGM 2021
Society for the History of Natural History
Annual General Meeting 2021, Tuesday 29 June 2021, 3.00pm
Dear Member,
This year the Society for the History of Natural History celebrates its 85th birthday, a wonderful achievement for a voluntary society. We look forward to meeting you at our forthcoming virtual Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 29 June (3pm London time); we extend a special welcome to our new members and to our international members. Although Covid restrictions and concerns prevent us from meeting in person and having a ‘real’ celebration this year, meeting virtually does enable us to welcome members who would find travel and its associated costs prohibitive.
However, we do want to compensate for the lack of social meetings and we are planning several webinars during 2021/22, and hope to meet in person in 2022 to hold our delayed conference on the theme “Pioneering Naturalists: Champions of Conservation and Environmental Engagement.” We have much to celebrate in 2021 as we finalise the discussions about the Society’s strategies for the future. This AGM will also be an opportunity to commend the individuals receiving the Society’s Founders’ Medal and the first occasion when we present our new award – the President’s Award – a suitable way to mark 85 years of commitment to the history of natural history.
The official business of the AGM will be preceded by a short SGM when we will consider the adoption of the Byelaws (discussed at our March SGM) following their approval by the Charity Commission. Following the AGM there will be a short break, followed by presentation of the Society’s Awards and short talks by our Award winners. The Agenda for the AGM, and all the supporting documents including the list of nominees to Council portfolios, are available on the Society’s website. We will be sending out invitations to the AGM by mail to those members lacking an email address.
I do hope you will be able to join us in the virtual environment on Tuesday 29th June at 3 pm.
- The Agenda for the SGM & AGM and all the supporting documents, are available on the Society’s website (https://shnh.org.uk/society-for-the-history-of-natural-history-agm-2021-agenda/). Please read these, or download them if you need to print them out.
- You must sign up to the join the SGM/AGM on the Eventbrite page – you will have received an email from our Meetings Secretary (Jo Hatton) inviting you to join up to an Eventbrite meeting. All you need to do is open the link in that email. On the Eventbrite page there is a ‘Join Event’ button. Please click on this and add in your current email address – this automatically adds you to the list of SGM/AGM delegates. Please note that registration will close on 25th June.
- Prior to 29 June you will receive an email from our Host for the Zoom Meeting (Jo Hatton) which will enable you to join the AGM Meeting. Clicking on the link in this email takes you into Zoom – you will have to download this software if you don’t already have it on your computer. If you already have Zoom you can simply open it and ask to ‘Join a Meeting’ and add in the code and password as sent by Jo.
We look forward to a virtual meeting with you on June 29th.
