Owing to the developing situation relating to Covid-19, the SHNH Council has taken the decision to reschedule our annual meeting & AGM which was planned for 25-26 June 2020. ‘Pioneer Naturalists: Champions of Conservation & Environmental Engagement’ will now be held in 2021
Message from SHNH President Professor Peter Davis
Coronavirus (Covid-19) and Society activities
You will all be aware of the seriousness of the Coronavirus outbreak and the impact this is having, and may have, on all our lives. Society’s Council has thought carefully about how we should react to the spread of the virus and as a first step we cancelled the upcoming April Meeting of Council to avoid unnecessary travel and contacts. A more difficult decision concerned our Annual Conference and AGM, planned for Cambridge in June. Aware that the outbreak is predicted to reach its peak in the UK in May/June we have taken the decision to cancel that meeting also. This is especially frustrating as the response to the theme “Pioneering Naturalists: Champions of Conservation and Environmental Engagement” had been excellent, attracting a wide range of speakers from around the world. Because of that interest, our intention is to retain that theme, and Cambridge as the location, but move to a suitable date in 2021. We will also seek a date – possibly in the autumn of 2020 – to hold an AGM. Please make sure you monitor the Society website and social media for updates
We are currently living through an extraordinary time, but the Society will continue to function as effectively as possible. The Newsletter, as always, gives a firm indication that we remain as active as ever (issue 117 in press now); the next issues of Archives of Natural History will also soon be with you. It is good to have these anchors of normality at this time, but meanwhile, please take all precautions and keep safe.
